Heat Treating

Heat treating allows Worthington to manipulate the performance properties of the materials used in production.

We typically use heat treating techniques to strengthen material or enable material ductility. For example, our type III cylinders feature an aluminum metal liner subjected to heating, quenching and re-heating to provide a more durable foundation upon which the rest of the cylinder construction is built. The current size of our heat treating furnace allows us to process aluminum liners up to 14 feet in length. State of the art equipment for heat treating is also used for stress relief in our gas grill cylinders and steel high pressure cylinders.
